About tarek yamani
tarek yamani, a pianist, composer, producer, and educator who was born and raised in Beirut, constantly blurs the lines between Black-American music, Arabic music, and electronic music. tarek yamani dissatisfaction with the classical music system as a child turned him into a true teenage metalhead, teaching himself to play the guitar and immersing himself for years in the metal scene. Jazz comes to him in the form of a revelation around the age of 19, shortly after he finds himself co-producing and performing with the storied Arabic hiphop band Aksser. It makes it crystal clear that this is the kind of musical expression he's been looking for all along. He learns jazz piano by himself by listening to records and eventually reading books (when he could find one). They have been reinventing Arabic music within the framework of Black American Music ever since the release of his debut album, Ashur, in 2012.
