One of the most unusual places in the Black Hills is Termesphere gallery. One of the country's more unusual art spaces can be found off a well-maintained gravel road outside Spearfish, in a geodesic dome festooned with fantastical globes that their creator, the artist Dick Termes, has named Termesphere. They are essentially three-dimensional paintings on spheres that look like works by Escher and were created using what he calls six-point perspective. According to the New York Times, Buckminster Fuller attended Black Hills State University in the early 1970s. Dick Termes was captivated by his ideas after reading his books. The Geodesic Dome was created by Fuller. Dick was requested to bring Fuller and his wife, Anne Hewlett, to the college from the airport. Bucky's geodesic dome system was just one of many fascinating subjects that Termes and Fuller discussed over the course of their two wonderful and exciting days together.
