About Westwind Orchard
Westwind Orchard uses all of their fruit in their ciders, vinegar, and jams, as well as in their seasonal dishes served in the trattoria. They do not offer U-Pick fruit. During their harvesting seasons, their farm store does sell fruit. They wanted everything organic when they bought Westwind Orchard. They thought that organic farming was the best way to keep the orchard healthy at the time, and getting certified helped prove their methods. As a result, in 2008, they submitted an application for their first official organic certification in the hope that it would legitimize their practices in the eyes of their clients and provide them with a manual for maintaining their trees and land. However, for a small, diverse farm like ours, the certification process has recently become expensive and cumbersome, prompting them to look into alternative growing methods. They are able to significantly increase their efficiency and pursue holistic treatments that, ironically, may not have been available to them previously thanks to their decision not to certify.
