About Nehalem Bay Winery
In the historic Mohler Creamery building near the coastal town of Nehalem, Nehalem Bay Winery was established in 1974. From 1909 to 1959, as part of the Tillamook County Creamery Association, The Creamery produced butter, cheese, and milk. Later, The Tillamook Creamery became the Oregon Coast's most popular tourist attraction. Oregon Blackberry was the first wine bottled and released on April 1, 1974, and production initially concentrated on a variety of fruit wines. One of the ten oldest wineries in the state of Oregon and the first winery on the Oregon Coast, Nehalem Bay Winery began producing traditional white and red wines in local, handcrafted oak fermenters within a few years. Raymond Shackelford, a philanthropist who had been awarded the Purple Heart twice, quickly made the Winery a place where everyone could come to enjoy music, food, and fun in the beautiful Oregon Coast Range.
