Derek Ryan Smith, better known by his stage nameMOD SUN MUSIC, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Bloomington, Minnesota. He was born on March 10, 1987. He has put out six mixtapes, three EPs, and four solo studio albums. Smith began his musical career by playing drums in the pop punk band The Semester and the post-hardcore bands Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Four Letter Lie. In 2009, he started a solo rap career under the name MOD SUN MUSIC. His style returned to pop punk with the release of his fourth solo studio album, Internet Killed The Rockstar. He is also a member of the alternative hip hop duo Hotel Motel. His fifth studio album, God Save The Teen, came out on February 3, 2023.
