Derby Festival Marathon was founded in 1974. Derby Festival Marathon is a non-profit community organization of 4,000 volunteers dedicated to providing quality entertainment throughout the year to strengthen the Louisville community. The Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and Mini Marathon will return on April 28. 2018 is the 45th year of the Marathon and the 17th year of the Marathon. It comes from all 50 states and several foreign players who complete their scenic road races in downtown Louisville each year. Today, the mini marathon attracts more than 15,000 contestants each year and is ranked among the top 50 in the US by the American Athletic Association. More than 3,000 people participate in marathons every year.
