About Lowther Castle
One of the oldest families in this country, their origins can be traced back to Dolphin, a descendant of the Viking settlers who came here in 1150. It is said that it was Dolphin who named the river lowth (foamy water), and that was why he had the last name. Knights and counts, members of parliament, industrialists, agronomists, merchants, designers of visionary houses and gardens, soldiers, adventurers, collectors and athletes-Lowther Castle Dynasty has many high-achieving ranks. For generations, they've been earners and spenders, and reading their history is a record of the triumphs and trials of the kingdom. Pete Jr. and Wordsworth were his disciples, William II was his friend, and the King and Queen were his guests and allies. Coal and iron often appeared in Lowther Castle, and today, the descendants of Dolphin are still largely in their original place, serving as servants and guardians of one of Britain's most beautiful regions.
