Warner Theater was built in 1931 and is the art deco palace of Warner Brothers Film Company. With the establishment of traditional cinemas and the disappearance of the golden age of movies, it continues to show movies in private ownership. When the 1955 flood swept Torrington, the theater was severely damaged. The orchestra venue and stage were completely submerged, and the magnificent walls absorbed dirty water, destroying the orange "monkey hair" and the intricate decorations of the entire theatre. Although the movie palace reopened after the flood, it has been in a state of disrepair for decades until the early 1980s when it was finally demolished. Today, Warner Theater holds more than 170 performances every year, ranging from concerts to Broadway-style musicals, and has expanded to include the warner arts education theater center and the 300-seat Nancy ocean studio theater adjacent to the meuse building.
