About Theater at Monmouth
Theater at Monmouth is an annual performance company composed of professional theater artists from Maine and across the United States. The theater was founded in 1970 and was named the Maine Shakespeare Theater by the Maine State Assembly in 1975. The Theater at Monmouth education program is dedicated to deepening the understanding, appreciation and connection of great literature. Educational programs are designed to develop analytical and literacy skills; stimulate imaginative thinking and creativity; and increase confidence, self-esteem, and community awareness. The company is a member of the Theatre Communications Group, the Shakespeare Theatre Association, the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Androscok Gold Chamber of Commerce. The building's architecture incorporates Romanesque-style asymmetric columns and towers, as well as various exterior textures from the time of Queen Anne.
