When Norman and Elizabeth Jones established the 2 ha "Dunn's Paddock" Shiraz vineyard in 1989, they did it out of a love of wine, a little bit of research, a lot of naivete, and a lot of hard work. This resulted in the founding of Amherst Winery. In 1998, 1.5 ha of Cabernet Sauvignon and 5 ha of Chardonnay were planted in its place. Amherst Winery is situated in Western Victoria's stunning Pyrenees Wine Region, 20 kilometers southeast of Avoca. Norms' grandparents and great grandparents have cultivated the property at Amherst, a historic gold field. They seized the chance to preserve a portion of the family's rural tradition in the 1970s when the option to buy some of this land presented itself. Luke Jones, a second generation vigneron at Amherst, currently owns and runs the company.
