The 501(c)(3) non-profit Shun the Sun Foundation generates funds to erect shade structures and instruct the public about skin cancer awareness and prevention. Dr. Gregory S. Allen, the man behind the Shun the Sun Foundation, dreamed up the Gilbert Half Marathon. The goal of Avoid the Sun is to combat skin cancer. In order to achieve this, they plan to use the money raised from their races to spread awareness of skin cancer, provide sunscreen to youth organizations, and/or make a donation to hospitals like Phoenix Children's Hospital, Banner Children's Cancer Center, or St. Jude's. They appreciate your support of both their fundraising efforts and their fight against skin cancer.
