About Emerson Theater
The professional producing and presenting organization of Emerson College's Office of the Arts is Emerson Theater. They committed to building a cultural institution that reflects the diversity of their city when Robert J. Orchard founded them in 2010, the year the them Census revealed that there was no single cultural majority in Boston. They operate on the fundamental premise that the arts are accessible to all. Emerson Theater quickly gained a reputation for presenting outstanding work from around the world by putting the world on stage. This work uses the language of theater but pushes the boundaries of theater, dance, music, and media arts. They have also become an essential component of Boston's efforts to transform their bitter segregation history into a resilient legacy of equity and unity in diversity by bringing diverse programming to neighborhoods across the city.
