The holiday custom in New Orleans is called Celebration in the Oaks. Over 135, 000 people from all over the world come to the Park to see the magical winter spectacle, making it one of the country's most spectacular holiday lights festivals. Celebration in the Oaks is a 37-day family-friendly event that began in the late 1980s and has become an annual tradition. Residents of the area and tourists from all over the world have had access to New Orleans City Park, which is managed by the City Park Conservancy, for more than 170 years. The Louisiana Children's Museum, the New Orleans Botanical Garden, the Couturie Forest and Arboretum, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the world's largest grove of mature live oaks, some of which are nearly 800 years old, are all located in the Park. The care, maintenance, and stewardship of the Park are the responsibility of the City Park Conservancy, a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
