About THALIA MARA HALL
Is a facility managed by the Department of Human and Cultural Services and serves as the Municipal Auditorium of the City of Jackson. In Jackson's downtown arts and cultural district is the 2, 040-seat theater. Thalia Mara Hall, formerly known as the Jackson Municipal Auditorium, was constructed in 1968. Miss Thalia Mara, a Chicago native with a long career as a performer in the United States and abroad, was invited to establish a professional ballet company and school in Mississippi in 1975 by the Jackson Ballet Guild. She secured the International Ballet Competition (IBC) for the City of Jackson in 1979 as part of her development strategy. THALIA MARA HALL was chosen as the IBC's official home in the United States after a law passed by Congress. Thalia Mara Hall is where the competition takes place every four years. The Jackson Municipal Auditorium was given the new name "Thalia Mara Hall" by THALIA MARA HALL City Council in 1994.
