The 1937-built Colonial style house eventually served as Frank Wicks, the mayor of Saugatuckfamily,'s residence. It was conveniently situated in the heart of Saugatuck, just one block from the Kalamazoo River crossing Chain Ferry, which has operated continuously since 1838. In 1981, Sue and Stub Louis purchased the home and transformed it into an inn that was inspired by London's Brown's Hotel. The first bed & breakfast in Saugatuck was established by Wickwood Inn. The 11-room inn was sold by the Louis family to their neighbors Julee Rosso and Bill Miller after ten years. Miller, a native of Holland, Michigan, and Rosso, a gourmet food guru best known for being the co-author of the classic Silver Palate Cookbook, transformed Wickwood Inn into a farm-to-table culinary destination that drew 30 years' worth of devoted patrons and praise in the New York Times and Travel + Leisure magazines.
