About Nome Schoolhouse
The gym was added in 1949 after the building of Nome Schoolhouse in 1916. These hallways saw a lot of kids, teachers, and parents sharing a lifetime of memories. The school's enrollment shrank as a result of North Dakota's general decline in rural population. The outcome was that the elementary school closed in 1970 and the high school in 1966. The students were distributed among Kathryn, Enderlin, and Fingal schools. The former school building was turned into storage and sold. In 1972, the school district was abolished. Teresa and Chris of Shepherd Industries, llc acquired the structure and surrounding land in 2018 after a number of owners and many years. Nome Schoolhouse reopened in 2021 as a Fiber Arts Retreat Center/Event Center/Boutique Hotel following a three-year refurbishment.
