About Tori Amos
American singer-songwriter Tori Amos nee Myra Ellen Amos; born August 22, 1963, is also a pianist. She has a mezzo-soprano vocal range and has studied classical music. Amos, the youngest student ever admitted to the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, received a full scholarship at the age of five after having already started to compose piano instrumental works. When her scholarship was revoked at the age of eleven for what Rolling Stone referred to as musical insubordination, she was forced to leave. Before making her solo debut in the early 1990s, Tori Amos was the lead vocalist of the brief-lived 1980s pop trio Y Kant Tori Read. Her songs cover a wide range of subjects, including politics, religion, feminism, and sexuality.
