About Sugar Cane Train
In 1969, A.W. McKelvy and Makai Corporation created Sugar Cane Train. This line has been in operation for more than 30 years and has daily passenger services from Lahaina to Puukri (north of Kaanapali). Since 1970, more than 5 million tourists have come to Maui by train, making it one of the most popular attractions in West Maui. With the whistling of a whistle, the locomotive slowly moved on the six-mile-long track, and guides treated the passengers in a Hawaiian style. Future plans of Sugar Cane Train also include weddings and the addition of special evening train parties and receptions. Where sugar cane used to be, other crops such as coffee and corn will be planted. So, even though the rattan fields have disappeared, the train will continue to transport tourists between Lahaina and Kaanapali, along the scenic journey from the former Maui to today's beautiful and charming Maui.
