The Gorham Savings Bank Maine Marathon is a Maine Track Club event. Founded in 1979, the nonprofit, all-volunteer Maine Track Club is Maine's greatest and most active running club. The 2021 event will be the 30th edition – making it one of the longest running marathon events in New England. Volunteers act as race directors and handle the logistics of race day, organizing the expo, helping to find sponsors and more. The event is dedicated to giving back to the community through charitable giving. Since 1997, Maine Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay as well as its participants have raised nearly $5,500,000 for charity. The 2020 beneficiaries were Teens to Trails, Wayside Food Programs, Team Long Run, Port Resources, Pihcintu Multicultural Chorus, outstanding Shawnee Peak Adaptive Ski, and Spurwink.
