In addition to traditional performances, Omaha Symphony currently includes 41 full-time musicians and 29 performers under contract. It continues to run a series of nationally recognized education and community engagement programs that cover thousands of different ages in the region each year. Before the 1920s, Omaha had several folk symphony orchestras, but since Henry Cox's founding in March 1921, Omaha Symphony has had a superior artistic and talented musicality. The acceptance of the "new" symphony by the community was so encouraging that the famous Sandel Hamati was invited by the Department of Women's Affairs of the Omaha Chamber of Commerce to host the 1925-1926 season. The symphony orchestra continued to flourish, and in 1930 Joseph Lito, who was ill, took over the orchestra for two years.
