On their 2000 trip to Paris, Justina Kervel & Luvia Petersen first came up with the idea for Liquid Amber Tattoo. They were motivated to support the advancement of women in the tattoo industry by a chance encounter with tattoo artist Phillipine of Kaplan Art Studio. Liquid Amber Tattoo first opened its doors in the Kitsilano neighborhood of Vancouver in the summer of 2001, and a few years later they relocated to Burrard and Davie. The shop relocated to Gastown in 2010 and spent the next 12 years there. In 902 Commercial Drive in Vancouver's culturally significant "The Drive" neighborhood, Liquid Amber opens its doors in February 2022. Since Liquid Amber's grassroots beginnings, one of the biggest changes has been its expansion.
