Armatron International was founded in 1920 as a manufacturer of automobile radios and has been owned by a family ever since. Through its Flowtron division, it is now recognized as a global leader in outdoor products after more than 80 years of innovation. From the 1920s to the 1960s, the business improved its manufacturing and design capabilities to include stereo systems for cars and homes, such as tape players. The business began expanding into new product lines as a response to intensifying competition from the Far East. Flowtron Outdoor Products Division was established in 1974 with the goal of designing, developing, and manufacturing electronic insecticides and electric heaters for use in both residential and commercial settings. To better reflect its expanded range of consumer goods, the company changed its corporate name to Armatron International, Inc. In 1980 from Automatic Radio Manufacturing Company.
