Founded in 1985, Artist & Craftsman's is a small work of art in the Portland area of Maine. At the time, the retail art scene was dominated by independent "mother and pop" stores, which were generally a combination of stationery, hardware and office supplies. Since the Internet is still only a commercial platform, the directory company is also a major player. A&C carved its little corner in northern New England. At the beginning of its foundation, A&C dealt with wholesale distribution, light production, signage, architectural finishes (eg coatings for houses) and exclusive import and distribution of European oil paintings.
