About Snipsa
An organization called Snipsa was started by a group of compassionate people and veterinarians who wanted to help homeless and unwanted animals in San Antonio and the surrounding area. In the absence of a permanent shelter, they rely on a core group of volunteers to foster and rehabilitate animals in their own homes. In order to facilitate an appropriate adoption, this gives them the chance to observe the animal's needs and behavior firsthand. Since its inception in 2006, Snipsa has placed more than 19, 000 animals in new homes. The majority of the animals they assist come from shelters with a high kill rate. Each day, about 74 dogs and cats are taken from San Antonio's animal shelters, totaling more than 27, 000 animals. On city streets, another 20, 000 dead bodies are picked up. Animals whose "time is up" are removed from shelters every week by them. Many of these animals have been used to breed year after year and have fractures, mange, and been neglected.
