Winchester Science Centre was established in 1985 to address the shortage of local scientists, engineers and technicians. Founded in an abandoned cafeteria, the charity grew rapidly and moved into the award-winning South Downs National Park building in 2002. The charity is now a regional leader in scientific communication, attracting more than 185,000 visitors each year to the Science Centre, including more than 40,000 schoolchildren, and more than 30,000 people through outreach activities in schools and in the community.
