Steve Conaway is from Pennsylvania. Steve and Erica were married in 1990. The Conaway family had four children. In the U. S. Army in 2003 after more than 22 years of service. He completed visits to Germany. After five years stationed along the Rhine and Moselle rivers in Germany, Steve developed a passion for Riesling. After his family moved to the beautiful 1000 Island area of New York City, Steve was inspired by the majestic St. Lawrence River and the island's magnificent castle. He noticed many similarities between the two distant places. Both areas feature beautiful landscapes, large cruise ships and many visiting international tourists. Lawrence lacks the vineyards and wineries that flourished in Europe. Regarding this as a huge opportunity, the Conaways set about establishing a new vine-growing area in New York State and bought a farm in December 2002 at Thousand Islands Winery.
