On July 4, 1914, the day Smith building opened to the public, 4,200 people took the original Otis elevator that they still use today to the observatory on the 35th floor. They only spent 25 cents. Initially, the building had 540 offices, six retail stores, two telegraph offices and a public telephone station. Today, Smith Tower boasts a famous observatory, 35th floor bar, Smith Tower legend, underground retail stores, special events space and office rentals. For more than a century, visitors have come to enjoy Seattle from above, relax and have a good time. When you visit, be sure to sit on a hearty Chair and watch more Smith its lore as you explore the 35th floor. Its stories include links to the radio, rum and many interesting characters and flickering stories that you can enjoy when buying tickets.
