" The possibility of a Jacobite assault on Enniskillen in December 1688 prompted the formation of volunteer defense units, some of which were incorporated into the Army in 1689. These included a Zachariah Tiffin-led infantry regiment. Tiffin's Inniskillingers participated in the campaign in Ireland and remained a permanent unit on Royal Irish after surviving the postwar reductions.
