Mount Washington Cog Railway is the world’s first mountain-climbing Cog railway and the only railway in North America currently operating. With an average score of 25%, it is also the second steepest in the world! The power of Mount Washington Cog Railway is mainly provided by seven powerful fleets of biodiesel locomotives. Each locomotive is custom designed, manufactured and maintained on site. At the same time, the railway continued to operate a pair of century-old coal-fired steam engines due to the recognition of the shift to steam tradition. Marshfield Base Station is located in the center of the majestic White Mountain area in northern New Hampshire, 6 miles east of Route 302 west of Mount Washington. Even driving along the base station road is beautiful-every tortuous twist reveals a new perspective of the presidential campaign.
