About Transportation Museum
Transportation Museum is located in the historic Jackson Street Rotunda. Originally a steam engine maintenance facility for the Northern Railway. Built in 1907, Transportation Museum was one of the last round houses built by "Empire builder" James J. Hill. It replaces a smaller wooden engine - Sao Paulo and Pacific House. The roundhouse is part of a large store complex built in the 1880s. The complex is located near the center of Sao Paulo, north and east of the State Capitol, and was sold to the Greater North in 1960. The circular residence was then converted into a warehouse/industrial building. All the rails were removed and an additional section was built on the turntable.
