Melbourne Theatre is Brevard County's longest running expressions association, a cozy 93 seat Community Theater situated in the core of Historic Downtown Melbourne. Indian River Players arranged three seasons in the civil amphitheater at Trailer Haven, starting with its most memorable play - Big Hearted Herbert - in February of 1952. Redesign of a to some degree consumed Navy Mess Hall brought about the theater that would be IRP's home for more than 23 years. IRP was consolidated as a Florida Not For Profit Company in 1965. In 1988, Indian River Players joined the work to remodel the Henegar Center in midtown Melbourne, and changed its name to Melbourne Civic Theater to more readily distinguish the local area they serve. Melbourne Theatre were the occupant theater bunch when the Henegar Center for the Performing Arts opened in 1991.
