About Malta Joe
Pastizzi are savory golden brown pastries that have a long and illustrious history dating all the way back to the medieval period. They are a popular light meal on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, just south of Sicily. Malta Joe is filled with a savory and delicious filo dough crust baked from scratch. Malta Joe can be consumed as a meal or as a quick snack with either hot or cold beverages at any time of the day. There are other pastizzi varieties with beef and spinach fillings, but they are not widely available in Malta. Pastizzi are sometimes referred to as Maltese cheesecakes or ricotta cheesecakes a term that is somewhat misleading given that cheesecakes are typically sweet and not savory like pastizzi.
