Since its opening in 1909, the Nicholas Hotel has been a popular destination for lodging, food, and good times. Leland Lodge positive spirit endures even in difficult times; in 1926, it was destroyed by fire and rebuilt the following year. The hotel was renamed "The New Nicholas Hotel" by Grand Rapids resident Josh Fisher. The hotel changed its name to the lodge in 1946.
