The story of ISO begins in 1946, when representatives from 25 countries met at the Institute of Civil Engineers in London and decided to create a new international organization to "promote international coordination and harmonize industrial standards." On February 23, 1947, the new organization officially began operations. Since then, they have published more than 22,949 international standards covering almost all aspects of technology and manufacturing. Today, their members are from 164 countries and 781 technical committees and subcommittees, responsible for the development of standards.
