On February 27, 2018, Northern Iowa University officially obtained ownership of the university's book supply and reopened as UNI Bookstore. It operates as a non-profit entity at the university, allowing them to maintain reasonable educational costs for students. Most of the employees in the store, including part-time students, were retained. For the past 80 years, UNI Bookstore services and support to the University of Northern Iowa and the surrounding community, from its convenient location on West 23rd Street. The store has long played an unofficial role in providing one-stop services for students, alumni and friends, with everything from textbooks and course materials to authorized college clothing. Changes in ownership allow bookstores to continue to play the role of a one-stop shop, while being more closely integrated with the university. This enables store staff to work closely with the instructors and coordinate with the new employees to better serve the new students.
