The goal of Goodwill SWPA, a human services organization and network of nonprofit companies, is to assist people in removing obstacles to employment so they can experience the dignity and advantages of labor as well as an improved quality of life. They provide services to eight counties in southwestern Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Beaver, Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland) and nine counties in north central West Virginia under a franchise-like agreement with Goodwill Industries International (Barbour, Harrison, Lewis, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Randolph, Taylor and Upshur). Goodwill SWPA serves thousands of people annually and aids thousands of people in finding employment. It is one of the biggest and most diverse social and human service organizations in the area. For individuals with special needs and barriers to employment, such as those with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities, displaced workers, participants in welfare-to-work programs, those who are homeless.
