About Gardner Farm Inn
Gardner Farm Inn Inn's history begins in the 1700s when Asa Gardner received a grant of property from Stephen Van Rensselaer at Rensselaerwyck, then in Brunswick, which is today a part of Troy. The rich soils of Rensselaer County provided Gardner and his wife Helen with a means of subsistence. After Helen sold the property after Asa Gardner passed away in 1821, it went through two owners before being bought by John Sampson in 1836. John Sampson was a well-known businessman in New York City and the owner of the hardware store Tisdale & Sampson. They arrived to Troy in 1836 after quitting his active business and purchased the ancient Gardner Farm Inn property on the Brunswick road, one of the most opulent homes in the area.
