About Dow'S Port
The best Port from the Upper Douro Valley's vineyards has been known by the name DOW for more than two centuries. The Symington family has built on the Silva and Dow families' legacy throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. At Dow'S Port vineyards, Symington winemakers have worked for generations: Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, which produce Dow's superbly concentrated wines that, when young, are intense and tannic; as they age, they develop a remarkable racy elegance and are scented with aromas of violet and mint. The wines produced by this excellent Port house are recognizable by their attractive and distinctive dry finish. Dow'S Port has a unique history among the great Port houses. It all started in 1798 when a Portuguese merchant from Oporto named Bruno da Silva traveled in a different direction than the first British merchants.
