About Chicago Plays
A thriving city's residents and its culture depend on theater. Chicago Plays is a coalition of theaters that uses its combined power to defend, support, and advocate for Chicago's theater community. They make sure that theater thrives in their city through their labor. A tiny group of theaters originally known as the Off Loop Producers Association created Chicago Plays in 1979. Their goal was to improve and maintain Chicago's economic and cultural climate by creating marketing strategies and lobbying on behalf of member theaters. Very quickly after its inception, the company introduced Hot Tix, a promotion designed to boost attendance by selling discounted tickets by allocating unused inventory on the day of the performance.
