Formerly known as KP's, Castaways Resort was founded in 1992 as a small clifftop cafe/restaurant until 2002. In 2002, Gavin&Raewyn Shine purchased KP's and did a major renovation of the restaurant before reopening it to the public at Castaways, a wedding, conference and dining location. Over the next three years, fifteen two-bedroom wooden houses were built on a hill above the main venue to accommodate the rapidly growing wedding and conference business. By 2007, the main site had become a restaurant, a venue for weddings and meetings, and a specially designed restaurant, Agave, had been built. In 2008, 10 additional studio units were added to meet the growing demand for accommodation. During this construction, the reservation office was moved from the site to the site, with offices to accommodate the growing number of employees needed to serve the growing number of customers.
