Backdoor Theatre is a community theater without a profit. Through the performing arts, they aim to enrich, educate, and entertain the Greater Wichita Falls region. Backdoor Theatre is known for producing Broadway-style productions of high quality. Over 600 shows and concerts have been staged on their two stages, the Main Stage and the Dinner Stage. They opened its doors in the basement of Kell & Harrison's Weeks Mansion in 1971. The name came from the fact that theatergoers entered through a door in the back. They finally settled in their current location in 1976, moving into a building at 10th and Travis after a few years. W. Erle White gave them the place they are now. Built in 1919, it served as the People's Ice Company - Plant B in the past. The Main Stage Theatre and its lobby were created by Backdoor by raising the tower's floor. Volunteers and numerous generous donations carried out the majority of the work.
