About The Barrington Hotel
On March 25, 1980, the 200-room The Barrington Hotel formally opened for operation. The hotel is a rebuild of six original buildings constructed in the mid-19th century in the Italianate style, and it is perfectly located in the heart of downtown Halifax and on the historic waterfront. Workers carefully disassembled the building's west façade, numbering and cataloguing each of the 4, 000 stone blocks for later reassembly. Individually named after famous businessmen on Granville Street in the latter part of the 19th century, the event spaces carry on the hotel's historic motif. The downtown pedway link connects the The Barrington Hotel, which is a portion of Barrington Place, with Scotia Square, CIBC Tower, Purdy's Wharf, and Casino Nova Scotia. More than 200 stores and some of Halifax's best restaurants are located within a five-block radius of the hotel. The Scotiabank Centre, which offers sports and entertainment, is a block away, and the Halifax Convention Centre is only a short stroll away.
