About John Hand Club
The historic John Hand Club building's upper two stories serve as the club's home. The building was one of four built in 1912 on the "Heaviest Corner on Earth," or the intersection of 20th Street and First Avenue North. The structure, which was one of the earliest steel-frame skyscrapers in the South, was created by architect William Leslie Welton. It even briefly held the record for highest structure in America. Today, it stands for Birmingham's spirit of enterprise, tenacity, and advancement—a heritage that their club is pleased to uphold. John Hand Club contemporary, newly refurbished apartments provide sweeping city views and a tranquil setting for relaxation.
