Tervis applied the double-wall insulation technology pioneered in 1946 to a new material – stainless steel. Direct printing is done at a factory in Venice, USA, allowing for fast turnaround times and higher customization levels than any other competitor. The TakeYourTervis initiative began to encourage people to replenish reusable beverages instead of disposable plastic bottles. The world's first insulated glass was invented by Detroit engineers Frank Cotter and G. Hollist Davis. Tervis named their new company by combining the last three letters of each person's last name. . Thanks to a lucky coin throw, the company was named "Tevez" instead of the less appealing "Vist".
