Stained Glass Garden was started by the founders and their sibling in the summer of 1976, and it is now regarded as a beloved Bay Area institution. The Fourth Street Shopping District at the time consisted only of a few dirt roadways, vacant lots, and a goat farm. The store was tripled in size when the founder became the only proprietor in 1986. Since then, the thriving Fourth Street neighborhood has developed all around them. In 2004, a new employee who had fallen in love with the neighborhood and everything glass joined the team. Stained Glass Garden took over as general manager and gallery director in 2008 and also offers courses in mosaic, fused glass, and stained glass. All through the year, they host a broad range of visiting artists for classes and gallery events.
