About Southgatecentre
With its humble beginnings 40 years ago, Southgatecentre has expanded to become South Edmonton's largest shopping center and the city's top destination for fashion. An enthusiastic audience gathered when Southgate Centre originally opened its doors in 1970 with only 65 stores and services. The largest shopping center in Edmonton was built on the exact site where a farmer's field had been just a few years earlier. The center, which was anchored by Woodwards, Woodwards Food Floor, and The Bay, was a welcome addition to a rural neighborhood that was generally quiet. Since then, Southgate and Edmonton as a whole have developed and grown significantly. The Southgatecentre has undergone four significant renovations and additions since its opening in 1970, nearly tripling the original floor plan and luring some of the best companies to Edmonton. The city's shopping experience has recently undergone an unequaled level of refinement thanks to the most current restoration, which debuted in the summer of 2022.
