About Southern Mansion
A popular bed and breakfast in Cape May with a long history is called Southern Mansion. George Allen, a Philadelphia entrepreneur, constructed a bracket, post, and beam American mansion on the island of Cape May in 1863. Designed by Henri Phillipi, a builder of renown worldwide, and Samuel Sloan, an architect. For the following 83 years, Allen and his heirs used this beachfront castle as a country estate. The interior was divided into numerous small rooms, while the earth-tone exterior was painted white. Sadly, the conversion resulted in structural flaws. The house and grounds received very little maintenance over the following fifty years. Since there was no income, the boarding house's license was revoked in the 1980s which lead to Southern Mansion been a vacation centre today.
