At Sea Turtle, Inc, their mission is to rescue, repair and release injured turtles; educate the public; assist in the conservation of all turtle species. The Turtle Company was founded in 1977 by Ila Fox Loetscher, better known as "Mrs. Turtles of South Padre Island". In 1999, the store moved from Ila's backyard to its current location, 6617 Padre Blvd. The group was originally formed to help protect and restore the endangered Kemp sea turtles. Their mission has been extended to three parts: education, recovery and protection. Today, Sea Turtle, Inc is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization funded by public donations and on-site gift store sales. Your donation helps to keep the turtles inside the facility. This includes food, medicines, heaters, filters, water and electricity.
