The Turtle Company was founded in 1977 by Ila Fox Loetscher, better known as "Mrs. Turtles of South Padre Island". In 1999, the store moved from Ila's backyard to its current location, 6617 Padre Blvd. The group was originally formed to help protect and restore the endangered Kemp sea turtles. Their mission has been extended to three parts: education, recovery and protection.
