Russian River Brewing was founded in 1997 by Colbert Champagne Cellar in Guerneville, California. Vinny was hired as the winemaker of the winery and was initially the only employee. For the next 6 years, Vinnie continued to set high standards for super beer and Belgian style beer. Pliny the Elder was first brewed at the Colbert Distillery in 1999. It was one of the first commercially brewed double or royal IPA in the United States and has won numerous awards over the years. On October 11, 2018, Russian River Brewing opened the door for a new brewpub! The entire brewery covers an area of 85,000 square feet, including beer production for clean beer and sour barrel-aged beer, administrative offices, beer halls, self-guided tours, and 2 acres of free parking. The increase in production capacity allowed them to sell more draft beer and bottled beer to the current market and opened up some new areas in California.
