About Peter Lehmann Wines
The Barossa wine grape growing community faced difficult times in the late 1970s due to the region's severe surplus of grapes. Peter Lehmann Wines was aware that this would endanger the 140 family growers' livelihoods if businesses refused to purchase grapes and honor contracts. Peter Lehmann Wines took the initiative to make a wine that not only used grapes grown in the area but also reflected the community's spirit. With his vision and actions, the real Peter Lehmann had arrived, paving the way for a future that would benefit everyone and leaving a wine legacy unlike any other. In reference to Peter's promise to pay the growers after selling the wine, the 1980 first vintage wine was given the name the Futures. Peter's word served as his bond, and the agreement was sealed with a handshake. Peter kept his promise and made sure to pay his growers first when the money started coming in.
